Argyle Headband, by Lady Spankington
Yarn - Koigu KPM- 1128 (Red), and 1144 (Pink)
Needle - Size 2 US (2.75 mm)
Gauge isn't terribly important
I'd assume you could sub any kind of sock weight
yarn, so long as you can block it effectively
Cast on 4 stitches with the Main color. Work an i-cord
until about 6 inches long. Begin bottom section of chart.
Work as many section of the argyle pattern as neccesary.
I made 8 pattern repeats for mine, but your head may be smaller
or larger, or you might be using a whole different yarn.
When the headband wraps around your head, minus 2-3 inches,
start the top chart. When you have decreased to the bottom 4
stitches, work in i-cord another 6 inches and bind off.
For me, when I do color work, it always looks kinda funky,
so I ALWAYS block it, and it turns out quite spiffy.
***Note***
I made this chart after I made the original headband. I have NOT
tested the increases and decreases using this chart. It was brought up
in the Craftster forum (no doubt where you get the link for this pattern)
that I screwed up and made the decreases at the end on the wrong side.
That's very possible. My thought is that by the time you are done with the
8 pattern repeats, you'll prolley get the jist of what you are doing.
Apologies all around
**A Note on the Increasing:**
I made left and right leaning stiches along the middle 2
stitches going up. I just looks tidy. If you prefer, you can
use which ever increase you like. I'm not sure how much it
would really matter, as the decreased part probably won't
actually be seen by anyone but you, since it'll be at the
bottom of your head.
**Another Note on the Purls:**
I decided to make purl stitches on either side of the pink
bands up both sides. The function of this was to segment the
color bands, as well as help with the curling issues you might
have with the stockinette. It also stabilizes the edges since
the middle is double thickness because of the colorwork. Originally,
I tried edging it in garter stich, but it didn't look as tidy.
Blocking will knock out any curling issues you might have. You
might also want to line the bottom with fabric. I prolley won't
but I did consider it.
